Take My Eyes

an adult

of course

knows better

burned before

best to avoid the sting

of running back to that forgotten place

and feeling the pain of leaving

like all those years ago

that narrative you made up to make your world work

the garden you built

its walls are falling down

you pin up boards

to plug up holes

in the end you must watch it crumbling

here you are

back in that harsh place

where everything hurts when you touch it

i don’t know how to keep the whole charade going

i want to be able to go back there when I need to

i know it will go away

i know

but

i wouldn’t mind

being that old oblivious friend

take my eyes

so that I may roll along

so merry

so blind
